What’s in a Name?

Whats in a Name

I love my name!

David Wilkes Dendy

My name is biblical – There is only one person in the whole Bible named David – King David (the beloved one)

My name is historical – My great uncle Wilkes was a Presbyterian Pastor in Dalton, Georgia

My name is geographical – Dendy originates in Scotland.

My name forms a rhythmic two one two syllabic pattern.

My name is just that…

Do you love your name?

Does your chest exhale with pride when another’s voice is heard bellowing out your name?

Does your head snap ninety degrees when you hear your name in a crowded cacophony of noise and people?

What’s in a name?

Well…in a couple of words… A lot!

Do you wonder if you even have a name that is worth remembering, worth calling, worth honoring?

Listen to this poignant verse from the prophet Isaiah:

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name, you are mine.” (Isaiah 43. 1)

I am not a number…

I am not a bar code…
I am not a QR code…
I am not a lot of things…

But one thing I am…
I am David Wilkes Dendy

God, by name has called me…
God, out of incredible love has claimed me…
God, out of unimaginable sacrifice has redeemed me..

And because of all of that…
David Wilkes Dendy fears not!

Laugh often and Fear not!
David Wilkes Dendy!
