The Most Historic Day

Jesus praying in Gethsemane

THURSDAY’S THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR DAVID

It’s Maundy Thursday!
The Thursday before Good Friday…
The Thursday before Easter…
The Thursday of the Last Supper…
The Thursday that changed the course of human history.

Make no mistake…
Maundy Thursday is the most historic day in human history!

There are 300 prophecies in the Old Testament which foretell of the Messiah, the Anointed One coming to save the human race.

On Maundy Thursday, Jesus has fulfilled about 297 of them…

But now it is decision time.

Will Jesus go through what Jesus needs to go through in order to save humanity?

In the garden of Gethsemane this historic meeting of Son and Father takes place.

Three times Jesus pleads, “Take this cup from me…” (aka… Is there any other way the salvation of humanity can be accomplished?)

Each time the Father gently says, “No…”

Now decision time is upon Jesus.
Does he go forward with the Father’s plan or does the Son go his own way, out of harm’s way and live a relatively normal life in exile?

Listen to the words of the Son…
“And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.” (Luke 22: 41-43)

“Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done…”
And the rest is history.

The soldiers arrive…
Judas betrays with a kiss…
Jesus is arrested and tried over and over and over and over again…
The mob has gathered…
Their voices unite – “Crucify Him, Crucify Him!”
Pilate washes his hands…
Jesus carries the cross…
Jesus is crucified…
Jesus is buried…
The disciples and the women mourn…
The stone is removed (not for Jesus to get out, but for us to look in and see the empty tomb)
He is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Humanity forgiven…
Humanity saved…
The creation reconciled with the Creator…

All because of the decision which took place on Maundy Thursday.
Jesus chose to die for you
Jesus chose to die for me
Jesus chose us…
So we could have life and life eternal!

Maundy Thursday, the most historic day!
Thank you Jesus!

Grace and peace,
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
