On being a “Verb” in 2016

verbsandadverbs2

On Christmas Eve I shared a list of “Verbs” that I wanted to be and do in the New Year 2016. Here’s my list from A-Z! Let me encourage you to do the same! Be a verb in 2016. Don’t just be a noun! Nouns need verbs…

The Joy of Being a
Noun and a Verb in 2016

A to Z

Accept people for who they are and not for who they should be

Bend over backward to help people get closer to Jesus

Crave God’s word

What if?

maxresdefault

Does your mind drift in reflecting on this past year 2015, probing the deepest recesses of your heart and soul and hovering over the one question:

“What if?”

I would be a fool if I didn’t agree with you and say, “Me too!”

Here’s a crazy idea for you
And for me…

“What if” we start the New Year 2016 with our default position, our go to response being:

“Why not?”

I have a feeling our view on the previous twelve months will look a whole lot different this time next year.

I look forward to the great adventure before us in 2016!

And he (Jesus) who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” (Revelation 21: 5)

“Nunc Dimittis” – A 100 Word Poem on Simeon

simeonssong-001

READ THIS FIRST (Otherwise the 100 word sermon might not make much sense if you do not know the role of Simeon in the birth narrative):

22 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

#23 “Unwrapped” – 25 Days of Christmas

o-unwrapped-gift-facebook

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2: 12)

Recently I ran into a family practicing the strangest Christmas tradition I have ever heard.

Christmas presents surround their Christmas tree.

Christmas day arrives.

The gifts are passed around to each family member.

Here’s the kicker…

They never unwrap the gifts…

Jesus came “wrapped” in swaddling cloths.

The choice is yours –

Leave Jesus wrapped or unwrap the Messiah, the glory of God and let the wild and joyous journey begin of living a life “unwrapped!”

#22 “Strange Sign” – 25 Days of Christmas

open-door

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2: 12)

We have all heard about how God will show us a “sign” by the opening of a “door.”

Not always…

A dear friend was going through a rough time about twenty years ago.
At his wits end, he finally drove himself to the “Funny Farm.” (His words…)

Guess what?
The gate to the “Funny Farm” was closed.
Strange Sign…

Next day at church?
Jesus changed his life!

Manger?
Swaddling cloths?
Strange Sign…

World changed!!
